Position Overview:
The Healthcare Engineering Supervisor plays a pivotal role in guiding clinical personnel on the secure utilization of essential building components, utility infrastructures, and fire safety systems within the healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:
1. **Compliance Assurance:**
Ensure adherence to various accreditation and regulatory standards, including those set forth by the Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

2. **Engineering Application:**
Utilize engineering principles and methodologies to improve healthcare delivery by fostering a technologically advanced, safe, and dependable healthcare setting.

3. **Program Management:**
Oversee the planning, organization, direction, evaluation, and management of Service Line programs, establishing both qualitative and quantitative benchmarks.

4. **Leadership Communication:**
Provide the Executive Leadership Team and clinical staff with insights on the integration of Engineering, Maintenance, Capital Management, and other engineering initiatives into the Medical Center's mission.

5. **Joint Commission Oversight:**
Supervise the Environment of Care Programs for Utility Systems Management, Safety, Life Safety, and Medical Equipment Management across the Medical Center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

6. **Administrative Leadership:**
Assume full administrative and managerial responsibilities for the Engineering Program, including planning, staffing, budgeting, and effective management.

Program Functions Include:
- Comprehensive planning, design, and oversight of renovation, modernization, and construction projects.
- Safety, industrial hygiene, disaster management, and sustainable environmental management services.
- Fleet and energy conservation services, along with maintenance and repair of facilities and utility systems.

Strategic Leadership:
Establish policies, procedures, standards, and objectives for Engineering programs; develop and implement a management review process; prioritize tasks while considering budgetary and manpower constraints; and coordinate engineering activities with other administrative and clinical services.

Work Schedule:
Standard work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm PST. Telework may be authorized on an ad hoc basis, with eligibility discussed during the interview.

Qualifications:
- **Citizenship:** Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- **Education:** A Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited institution is required.
- **Experience:** At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the federal service is necessary.

Preferred Experience:
Two years of experience as a Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Refer to VA Directive and Handbook 5019 for specific requirements.
