Chief Healthcare Engineering Officer

The Chief Healthcare Engineer plays a pivotal role in guiding clinical personnel on the secure operation of essential building components, utility frameworks, and fire safety measures within the healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Education and Guidance:**
Provide training and support to clinical staff regarding the safe utilization of critical infrastructure and systems.
2. **Regulatory Compliance:**
Ensure adherence to various accreditation and regulatory standards, including those set by the Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
3. **Program Management:**
Oversee the planning, organization, direction, evaluation, and management of Service Line programs, establishing both qualitative and quantitative benchmarks.
4. **Leadership Communication:**
Deliver insights to the Executive Leadership Team and clinical staff on integrating engineering, maintenance, and capital management into the Medical Center's mission.
5. **Joint Commission Oversight:**
Supervise Environment of Care Programs related to Utility Systems Management, Safety, Life Safety, and Medical Equipment Management across the Medical Center and associated clinics.
6. **Engineering Program Development:**
Lead all aspects of the Engineering Program, including project planning, design, and supervision of renovations and construction, as well as maintenance and repair of facilities.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm PST
Telework:
This position may allow for occasional telework, subject to discussion during the interview process.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited institution. Candidates should also have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, demonstrating knowledge in engineering principles related to healthcare facilities, resource management, and effective communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
Refer to VA Directive and Handbook 5019 for specific requirements.
Additional Information:
Participation in vaccination programs is mandatory for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel.
