Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Operations Manager to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Information Technology Department and ensuring the effective operation of our IT systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • IT Department Leadership: Provide hands-on leadership and management of the IT Department, working closely with the CIO and other stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Technical Operations: Ensure the smooth operation of IT systems, including network infrastructure, servers, and end-user devices.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage complex IT projects, ensuring timely delivery of objectives that align with organizational goals.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and guidance to team members, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Assist with the management and support of VoIP systems, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and participate in the ITD Incident Response Team.
  • Inventory Management: Manage and maintain inventory of IT assets, including end-user devices, printers, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Software Licensing: Manage software licensing and contract renewals, including obtaining vendor quotes.
  • Financial Management: Prepare budget status and expenditure reports as needed.
  • Professional Development: Stay abreast of industry trends, providing guidance on technology adoption and innovation.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: At least 10 years supporting academic institutions in a technical field with significant system responsibilities.
  • Skills: Proven track record of improving technical operations through automation and best practices; experience with IP networks, wireless, switches, routers, and firewalls; mobile device management experience; experience leading teams and managing multiple projects.
  • Knowledge: Experience and in-depth knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems in a networked environment; experience supporting audio-visual equipment; experience managing building security systems, including card access and security cameras.
  • Personal Qualities: Excellent day-to-day management skills, including excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to effectively relate and communicate at all levels.
