Job Description

Position Overview: As an Artisan Pastry Specialist at Think Hospitality, you will take charge of crafting an exquisite range of pastries and desserts that will enchant our patrons. You will oversee the pastry division, upholding exceptional standards of quality and artistry. Your innovative spirit and proficiency will play a vital role in enhancing our establishment's reputation for culinary excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dessert/Bakery Creation: Design and produce a varied assortment of pastries, cakes, tarts, cookies, and other confections. Adhere to established recipes while also inventing new creations to elevate our menu.
  • Quality Assurance: Guarantee that all pastries and desserts conform to the highest standards of flavor and presentation. Conduct regular taste evaluations and implement necessary modifications.
  • Ingredient Management: Procure and oversee the inventory of ingredients and supplies, ensuring optimal freshness and quality. Maintain an orderly and sanitized storage area, placing orders based on operational needs and budget constraints.
  • Kitchen Leadership: Direct the daily operations of the pastry division. Mentor and train pastry staff and kitchen assistants.
  • Innovation: Conceptualize and develop new pastry offerings and seasonal specialties. Stay abreast of industry trends and integrate them into our menu.
  • Health and Safety: Uphold a clean and sanitary workspace, complying with food safety regulations and hygiene standards.
  • Guest Engagement: Interact with guests as needed, collecting feedback and ensuring their satisfaction with our desserts.
  • Cost Management: Oversee food costs and minimize waste. Formulate strategies to optimize ingredient utilization while maintaining quality, utilizing recipe costing software to adhere to budgetary guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Pastry Chef or in a comparable role within a high-end bakery or dining establishment.
  • Education: Culinary school diploma or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Demonstrated expertise as a Pastry Chef with a focus on chocolate, artisanal bread, and pastry.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of chocolate techniques, bread baking, and pastry arts.
    • Exceptional creativity and capability to develop unique and enticing pastry recipes.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
    • Capacity to thrive under pressure in a dynamic environment.
    • Experience in training and nurturing a team of pastry professionals.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • A culinary degree or relevant certification is preferred.
  • Certifications: Food handler's permit or similar certification as mandated by local regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work a 12-hour shift, 5 days per week in a warm, noisy, and sometimes confined environment.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items as necessary.
  • Manual dexterity for intricate decorating tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds.
  • Color vision and depth perception are essential for food preparation and presentation.
  • Effective communication within the kitchen is necessary.
  • Occasional stair climbing may be required.

Work Environment:

  • This role involves working in a kitchen setting, which may include exposure to heat, noise, and various kitchen equipment.
