Position Overview:
The Clinical Nutrition Specialist collaborates with the healthcare team to deliver patient-centered nutritional care grounded in evidence-based practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify patients at nutritional risk following established protocols.
  • Gather comprehensive nutritional histories from patients and their families through effective interviewing techniques.
  • Conduct age-appropriate nutrition assessments for a diverse patient demographic, utilizing historical, clinical, and laboratory data, including nutrition-focused physical assessments when necessary.
  • Develop and implement tailored nutrition care plans based on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' 'Nutrition Care Process'.
  • Monitor and evaluate patients' nutritional needs regularly to ensure goals are met.
  • Provide recommendations for enteral and parenteral nutrition support when patients cannot maintain adequate oral intake.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds as required.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic diets, assessing learning needs and barriers to ensure effective understanding.
  • Document assessments and care plans in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Offer nutritional care to outpatients in specialized clinics based on referrals.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and professional practices in dietetics.
  • Participate in hospital committees to represent departmental interests and contribute to organizational goals.
  • Provide weekend and holiday coverage as needed to ensure continuous patient care.

Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics or a related field, completion of a dietetic internship, and successful passage of the national registration exam (RD status).

Skills:
Proficient in utilizing hospital information systems for data management, effective communication skills, and strong interpersonal abilities are essential.

Licensure:
Must be licensed as a dietitian with the appropriate state medical board.

Certification:
Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Working Environment:
Employees are expected to wear Personal Protective Equipment as mandated by hospital protocols and may be required to stand or move for extended periods during shifts.
