GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Clinical Educator (CE) leverages expertise, methodologies, and knowledge within the healthcare sector to enhance the practice of learners.

The CE is responsible for the creation, development, and coordination of educational support tailored to the assigned service line areas, adapting as organizational needs evolve.

Ensures the effective execution of key educational roles at both the service-line level and centralized education.

Roles:
The CE performs in various capacities:

  • Learning Facilitator: The CE employs educational design processes to address knowledge and skills gaps identified through assessments. Develops materials and action plans to support learner success.
  • Change Agent: The CE actively promotes and facilitates process transformations through inspiration and project management.
  • Mentor: The CE fosters professional growth and lifelong learning among staff.
  • Leader: The CE influences inter-professional practice and learning environments, enhancing the nursing profession and healthcare.
  • Champion for Scientific Inquiry: The CE advocates for the generation and sharing of new knowledge to improve clinical practice and patient care.
  • Advocate for NPD Specialty: The CE promotes nursing professional development as a vital nursing practice specialty.
  • Partner for Practice Transitions: The CE supports healthcare team members in their transitions across various roles and environments.

Responsibilities:
The CE is accountable for the following performance indicators:

  • Orientation/Onboarding: The onboarding process is designed to integrate new employees into the organization, focusing on retention and growth.
  • Competency Management: A dynamic process to assess and document ongoing performance and educational needs.
  • Education: Design educational initiatives to address practice gaps for specific audiences, including patient education and continuing nursing education.
  • Professional Role Development: Assists others in their professional growth and transitions, facilitating lifelong learning.
  • Research/Evidence-based Practice/Quality Improvement: Participation in research and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Collaborates with partners to leverage expertise in planning and decision-making.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
A Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or equivalent is preferred. An associate degree in nursing is required to commence in this position. A Bachelor's degree (BSN) in nursing is required within two years post-orientation.

Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience is required, with prior experience as a preceptor preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current RN Texas license is mandatory. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (CPR) certification is required pre-hire and must be maintained continuously. Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider certification is preferred pre-hire and required within six months of hire. Instructor status for at least two advanced specialty courses is required within two years of employment. National Specialty Certification in the relevant area is required upon reaching eligibility and must be maintained thereafter.
