Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Engineer is tasked with ensuring the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment, maximizing uptime while minimizing long-term ownership costs. This role demands a solid mechanical foundation and a comprehensive understanding of various equipment types to provide hands-on support to the maintenance team. The Maintenance Engineer will oversee projects, mentor maintenance technicians, coordinate with contractors, and plan daily maintenance activities to align with production objectives. The focus will be on short-term strategic enhancements in plant asset reliability and improvements in maintenance processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a catalyst for change, promoting discipline, efficiency, and accountability within the maintenance team to enhance daily operations. Success hinges on cultivating a culture that identifies root causes and implements swift corrective measures to prevent recurring issues.
- Offer technical guidance to Maintenance Planners and Supervisors in the development of job packages for various equipment types, including fixed and rotating machinery.
- Collaborate with Planners/Schedulers/Maintenance Supervisors to refine work processes that boost the efficiency of scheduling and executing maintenance tasks, particularly for regulatory preventive maintenance.
- Conduct field audits to assess the effectiveness of planning and scheduling.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) standards related to mechanical integrity and maintenance procedures.
- Regularly review backlogs and compliance reports to ensure timely scheduling and completion of critical preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Establish, monitor, and enhance Maintenance KPIs and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of maintenance processes.
- Serve as a steward of the plant's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, particularly concerning the design and execution of maintenance activities.
- Support the Reliability Engineer in optimizing preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies based on historical data.
- Assist Operations and Maintenance teams in troubleshooting equipment failures and assessing whether equipment meets operational requirements.
- During repairs, closely monitor work to ensure adherence to specifications and documentation of repair details.
- Ensure that repair methods and training are well-documented and accessible.
- Provide technical support for the specification and procurement of necessary parts and equipment.
- Coordinate Predictive Maintenance activities, including vibration analysis and thermography.
- Monitor equipment performance and proactively address potential issues.
- Recommend items for inclusion in turnaround work and assess mechanical equipment conditions during turnarounds.
- Oversee the Management of Change process related to maintenance activities.
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) teams to identify equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Share improvement insights and learning experiences across sites and within the Reliability Network.
- Implement and regularly assess the effectiveness of corrective actions derived from audits and analyses.
- Collaborate with operators to maintain equipment in optimal condition through the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and best practices among plant engineers for technical optimization.
- Develop Maintenance Standard Operating Procedures and provide training to technicians and supervisors.
- Contribute technical insights on Capital and Expense projects, managing small capital initiatives to ensure safety, timeliness, and budget adherence.
- Advocate for the adoption of maintenance technologies within the plant.
- Maintain and update technical documentation for archival purposes.
- Actively participate in Maintenance Network meetings, sharing insights and leveraging collective learning.
- Engage in the plant's capital and expense planning processes.
- Participate in HSE activities and training initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in maintenance and reliability, preferably in chemical, petrochemical, or refinery settings, with a focus on planning and executing maintenance activities.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Expertise in planning and scheduling maintenance job packages.
- Experience with preventive maintenance planning and execution.
- Familiarity with API, ASME, and ANSI Codes and Standards.
- Formal training or certification in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
- Proficiency in SAP and MS Office applications.
- Strong understanding of HSE procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of maintenance and process technologies, including vibration analysis and thermal imaging.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships across all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented with a data-driven decision-making approach.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
- Certification as a Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP).
- Certification as a Reliability Leader (CRL).
