Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated WIC Certification Specialist to join our team at CommuniCare Health Center. As a WIC Certification Specialist, you will be responsible for providing breastfeeding support and nutrition education to participants in the Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct nutrition assessments and provide individualized nutrition and breastfeeding counseling to participants.
  • Assist participants in completing the certification process, including goal setting, reviewing rights and responsibilities, and making referrals to other services as needed.
  • Prepare and issue family benefits, schedule appointments, and monitor client progress.
  • Screen and document identification, income, and residence status for program eligibility.
  • Investigate dual client participation and verify information from other WIC projects for transfers, in-state and out-of-state.
  • Provide exceptional internal and external customer service, addressing concerns and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Accurately obtain and document anthropometric measurements, including hemoglobin, hematocrit, and diet recalls.
  • Ensure compliance with required training and attend conferences, meetings, and travel as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • College-level nutrition courses highly preferred.
  • Basic office skills, including filing, typing, and computer literacy.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Must complete required State training designed for Formula Certified WIC Certification Specialist and modules within 9 months of hire.
  • Prior WIC experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
Physical Activities and Requirements
  • Finger dexterity: Using fingers to make small movements such as typing or picking up small objects.
  • Talking: Frequently conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, clearly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Repetitive motions: Frequently and regularly using the wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Visual: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or other materials.
  • Physical: Moderate activity; assist staff and monitoring flow. May have to lift folders, files, papers, audio/video equipment, and other such items weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.
