Position Overview:
Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate and nurture successful connections between adult volunteers and youth participants. Regular communication with these matches is essential to ensure adherence to agency and national standards. You will also be tasked with problem-solving and providing ongoing support and encouragement to all involved parties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct orientations, interviews, and assessments for parents, guardians, children, and volunteers.
- Collaborate with educational staff and community organizations involved in the youth mentorship programs.
- Deliver safety training for children and parents.
- Provide training for volunteers both before and during their engagement.
- Establish culturally sensitive matches between adult volunteers and youth.
- Maintain regular phone contact with match participants to ensure compliance with standards.
- Conduct annual evaluations with participants to assess match effectiveness.
- Support match quality by fostering open communication, clarifying expectations, and resolving issues.
- Create Youth Outcome Development Plans for all youth once matched with a mentor.
- Keep accurate records of all communications for case documentation.
- Share information about agency activities, events, and resources with match participants.
- Participate in mandatory match activities and program events.
- Attend community meetings, staff meetings, and training sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
- A bachelor's degree is required, ideally in social services, psychology, or a related field.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and engage with individuals tactfully.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
- Must adhere to confidentiality agreements and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Proficiency in standard business software and office equipment is necessary.
- Ability to manage time effectively and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Flexibility in work hours is required; some evenings and weekends may be necessary.
- Computer literacy is a must.
- Experience engaging with individuals, families, and communities of varied backgrounds and abilities is preferred.
- Fluency in a second language is advantageous.
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPRPRO (BLS), and AED are required.
- Foster relationships with a diverse membership base in culturally responsive ways, connecting members with one another and the YMCA.
