Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Coding Specialist to join our team. As a Coding Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of medical records, which is essential for proper reimbursement and quality care. Your expertise will be utilized to assign the appropriate ICD-10 CM and HCPCS/CPT codes, utilizing federal, state, and private documentation guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advanced knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
  • Knowledge of coding and reimbursement issues, insurance issues, and regulations
  • Utilize appropriate coding guidelines and references on a continuing basis
  • Demonstrate ability to read and comprehend medical record documentation
  • Assign codes accurately and timely
  • Maintains up-to-date listing of work completed and in process
  • Assists with Compliance and/or Internal Audits
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology to interpret general medical classifications and adhere to Compliance Rules and Regulations
  • Review clinical documentation to ensure that assigned codes are supported; recognize when vital information is missing and work with clinic to obtain documentation
  • Demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position
  • Maintain productivity standards as set by management
  • Organize and prioritize work appropriately
  • Take initiative in identifying/researching coding issues
  • Actively pursue continuing education credits designated by professional association
