Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage coding operations for both professional and facility services, ensuring high standards, accuracy, compliance, and optimization of revenue capture.
  • Oversee the accurate assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes for professional services and facility services.
  • Develop and implement coding policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, coding guidelines, and payer-specific rules.
  • Review and analyze bill edits generated by billing software or clearinghouses, identifying coding-related discrepancies, errors, and denials.
  • Conduct regular audits of coding accuracy and compliance, identifying areas of improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinicians, billing specialists, and other stakeholders to resolve coding-related issues and optimize revenue cycle processes.
  • Monitor coding-related key performance indicators (KPI) and metrics, analyzing trends and variances to identify opportunities for enhancements and optimization.
  • Serve as a resource and SME on coding-related matters, providing training, education, and support to coding staff and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of coding team members, as well as conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback and coaching.
Requirements:
  • Associates Degree in Health Information Management and/or Bachelors' Degree in Health Information Management preferred.
  • Must possess coding certification from AAPC/AHIMA.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a coding leadership role in an acute care, academic teaching facility or corporate office required (5 years preferred).
