We are currently seeking a skilled Fiber Optic Installation Specialist for a contract opportunity with significant potential for long-term engagement. This position requires a dedicated professional with expertise in fiber optic technology. Please find the detailed job description below.


Job Overview:
This role involves various responsibilities related to the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic copper termination tasks.
  • Install and mount racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware, ensuring proper grounding as necessary.
  • Conduct testing, including continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables, and troubleshoot issues such as opens, shorts, and transposed pairs.
  • Install various types of connectors, including LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
  • Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords, as well as outdoor and indoor fiber.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with industry standards.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Utilize testing equipment such as OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO for troubleshooting and problem identification.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing on all types of fiber cable.
  • Engage in building entrance splices and maintenance space tasks.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be self-motivated and maintain a positive approach.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard tools.
  • Experience in terminating various connector types for both single-mode and multi-mode fiber systems.
  • Preferred experience of 3-5 years in fiber optics, along with relevant industry certifications.
  • Familiarity with data center installations and confined space entry is advantageous.
