About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated Co-Op Civil Engineer to join our Traffic Engineering group in Boston, Massachusetts. As a Co-Op, you will play a vital role in analyzing, designing, and optimizing transportation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the optimization of traffic signal systems, including signal timing and phasing, signal coordination, transit signal priority, and adaptive traffic control systems.
- Collaborate with engineers to conduct traffic flow analysis, capacity analysis, and simulation modeling using software such as VISSIM, SYNCHRO, Sidra, or HCS.
- Contribute to the development of transportation management plans, focusing on improving traffic operations and reducing congestion during construction or special events.
- Assist in the design of traffic elements of roadways, such as intersections, traffic signal layouts, pavement markings, and signage.
- Participate in the collection of traffic data, including traffic volume counts, travel time studies, traffic signal inventories, traffic observations, and speed studies.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, drawings, and presentations summarizing findings, recommendations, and project deliverables.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program.
- Understanding of engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles at a basic level.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations.
- Ability to organize information for use in drawings or other documents.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of 2 years of post-secondary Civil Engineering program.
- AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience.
- Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure.
