Position Overview

Border Patrol Agents are responsible for identifying, preventing, and apprehending unauthorized individuals, smugglers, and illegal substances at or near the international borders of the United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to alerts from electronic monitoring systems;
  • Analyzing and following physical evidence such as tracks and marks;
  • Utilizing night vision equipment during nocturnal operations;
  • Acting on sightings from aircraft and engaging in anti-smuggling efforts;
  • Conducting inspections on farms, ranches, traffic, and urban areas;
  • Patrolling the international borders and coastal areas using various government resources, including vehicles, horses, boats, all-terrain vehicles, and motorcycles.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen of the United States;
  • Possess a valid driver's license;
  • Be referred for selection before reaching the age of 40 (with exceptions for veterans or prior federal law enforcement service);
  • Have lived in the U.S. for at least three of the past five years;
  • Be eligible to carry a firearm;
  • Be prepared for frequent travel, including potential extended assignments both domestically and internationally;
  • Successfully complete all required assessments.
