Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Public Health Advocate - Community Engagement Specialist to join our team at the University of Vermont Cancer Center.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team focused on community outreach and education. As a Public Health Advocate, you will play a key role in planning and coordinating internal and external outreach activities, including conferences, scientific retreats, research slams, and community-based screening and educational programs.

You will collaborate with the Director of Communications and Community Outreach to create materials, presentations, web stories, print, and digital content in support of educational events and community outreach programs. Your expertise in social media editorial content creation will help us develop engaging content for cancer education and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and coordinate internal and external outreach activities, including conferences, scientific retreats, research slams, and community-based screening and educational programs.
  2. Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Community Outreach to create materials, presentations, web stories, print, and digital content.
  3. Develop social media editorial content for the UVM Cancer Center, focusing on cancer education and community outreach.
  4. Operationalize strategic initiatives in areas such as event planning, content creation, and technology utilization.
  5. Create reports using qualitative and quantitative data to inform education and outreach strategy.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health prevention program development, marketing, or communications.
  • 1-3 years of related experience in public health, events, marketing, or communications.
  • Effective technology skills and proficiency in digital media environments.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communications skills.
  • Able to independently prioritize work and multi-task.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in an academic medical setting or research/education setting.
  • Degree in communications, public health, marketing, or related field.
Compensation

The estimated salary for this position is between $55,000-$65,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
