Position Overview

REPORTS TO: House Manager

COMPENSATION: $18.90/hour; biweekly payment schedule; sign-on bonus available

SCHEDULE: Flexible per diem shifts (up to 30 hours weekly) including day, evening, and overnight options.

ROLE SUMMARY: The Support Care Specialist is tasked with delivering direct assistance, training, and support to individuals with developmental disabilities within Individual Residential Alternatives ("IRAs") and community settings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure the well-being and safety of individuals through appropriate care.
  2. Assist in the creation, execution, and assessment of personalized care plans tailored to individual preferences and needs.
  3. Provide hands-on support and instruction in personal hygiene, nutrition, household management, financial literacy, and the use of adaptive technologies.
  4. Adhere to healthcare directives, administer medications, and educate individuals on fire safety and emergency protocols.
  5. Engage individuals in social, educational, vocational, and recreational activities.
  6. Support the maintenance and cleanliness of living spaces, ensuring safe access by keeping pathways clear.
  7. Accurately document financial transactions and obtain receipts for expenditures.
  8. Transport individuals as needed, coordinating vehicle use with the supervisor and utilizing personal transportation when necessary.
  9. Maintain effective communication with families and significant others of individuals.
  10. Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including potential evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  11. Complete required documentation and reports in a timely manner.
  12. Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Completion of the Agency's orientation and training program is required.
  • Successful completion of the Medication Certification training program is necessary.
  • A valid NYS Driver's License with a minimum of two years driving experience is required.
  • Must meet Agency insurability standards with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle for work-related duties.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, assist individuals with mobility, and perform snow removal tasks.
  • Physical capability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • Ability to operate both personal and Agency vehicles safely.
  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work in environments with potential exposure to infectious diseases and various odors.
  • Ability to endure outdoor conditions while performing seasonal activities.
  • Proficiency in using mechanical devices utilized by individuals.

SIGN-ON BONUS STRUCTURE:

Sign-on bonuses for Support Care Specialist roles are structured as follows:

  • $500 for per diem status (less than 30 hours per week)
  • $750 for part-time status (30-39 hours per week)
  • $1,000 for full-time status (40 hours or more per week)

Bonuses are distributed in four equal installments at three months, six months, nine months, and one year of employment.
