Job Overview

REPORTS TO: House Manager

COMPENSATION: $18.90/hour; biweekly payment schedule; sign-on bonus available

WORKING HOURS: Flexible per diem schedules (up to 30 hours weekly) covering day, evening, and night shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY: This role involves delivering direct assistance, care, training, and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in Individual Residential Alternatives ("IRAs") and within the community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure the health and safety of individuals by providing appropriate care.
  2. Assist in the creation, implementation, and assessment of person-centered plans tailored to individual preferences, needs, and interests.
  3. Deliver direct care and instruct individuals on personal hygiene, nutrition, domestic skills, financial management, and the use of adaptive and technological devices.
  4. Adhere to healthcare treatment directives, administer medications, and educate individuals on fire and emergency safety protocols.
  5. Engage individuals in social, educational, vocational, and recreational activities.
  6. Support the maintenance and cleanliness of the residence, ensuring that pathways and ramps are clear of debris and snow.
  7. Maintain accurate documentation in financial ledgers and secure receipts for all purchases.
  8. Transport individuals as needed, coordinating the use of Agency vehicles with the supervisor, and utilize personal vehicles when necessary.
  9. Maintain effective communication with the families and significant others of individuals.
  10. Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including potential evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  11. Complete and submit required paperwork, documentation, and records.
  12. Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Successful completion of the Agency orientation and training program.
  • Completion of Medication Certification training program.
  • NYS Driver's License with a minimum of two years driving experience required.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record to meet Agency insurability standards.
  • Reliable personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, assist individuals with and without support, and shovel snow.
  • Physical strength to respond safely in behavior crisis situations.
  • Ability to operate both personal and Agency vehicles.
  • Capacity to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Some exposure to infectious diseases, hygiene issues, food, and other odors.
  • Able to endure various atmospheric conditions during regular outdoor seasonal activities.
  • Proficient in operating mechanical devices utilized by individuals.

SIGN-ON BONUS DETAILS:

Sign-on bonuses are structured as follows for Direct Support Professional roles:

  • $500 for per diem status (less than 30 hours per week)
  • $750 for part-time status (30 hours per week)
  • $1,000 for full-time status (40 hours per week)

Sign-on bonuses are distributed in four equal payments at three months, six months, nine months, and one year of employment.
