Personal Care Assistant

REPORTS TO: House Manager
COMPENSATION: $18.90/hour; biweekly payment schedule; sign-on bonus available
WORKING HOURS: Flexible per diem schedules (up to 30 hours weekly) covering day, evening, and night shifts.
POSITION SUMMARY: This role involves delivering direct assistance, care, training, and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in Individual Residential Alternatives ("IRAs") and within the community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the health and safety of individuals by providing appropriate care.
- Assist in the creation, implementation, and assessment of person-centered plans tailored to individual preferences, needs, and interests.
- Deliver direct care and instruct individuals on personal hygiene, nutrition, domestic skills, financial management, and the use of adaptive and technological devices.
- Adhere to healthcare treatment directives, administer medications, and educate individuals on fire and emergency safety protocols.
- Engage individuals in social, educational, vocational, and recreational activities.
- Support the maintenance and cleanliness of the residence, ensuring that pathways and ramps are clear of debris and snow.
- Maintain accurate documentation in financial ledgers and secure receipts for all purchases.
- Transport individuals as needed, coordinating the use of Agency vehicles with the supervisor, and utilize personal vehicles when necessary.
- Maintain effective communication with the families and significant others of individuals.
- Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including potential evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Complete and submit required paperwork, documentation, and records.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Successful completion of the Agency orientation and training program.
- Completion of Medication Certification training program.
- NYS Driver's License with a minimum of two years driving experience required.
- Acceptable motor vehicle record to meet Agency insurability standards.
- Reliable personal vehicle for business purposes.
- Capability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, assist individuals with and without support, and shovel snow.
- Physical strength to respond safely in behavior crisis situations.
- Ability to operate both personal and Agency vehicles.
- Capacity to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Some exposure to infectious diseases, hygiene issues, food, and other odors.
- Able to endure various atmospheric conditions during regular outdoor seasonal activities.
- Proficient in operating mechanical devices utilized by individuals.
SIGN-ON BONUS DETAILS:
Sign-on bonuses are structured as follows for Direct Support Professional roles:
- $500 for per diem status (less than 30 hours per week)
- $750 for part-time status (30 hours per week)
- $1,000 for full-time status (40 hours per week)
Sign-on bonuses are distributed in four equal payments at three months, six months, nine months, and one year of employment.
