Position Summary

We are in search of a highly motivated and experienced Production Operations Leader to oversee the functionality of all production sectors, ensuring that volume, cost, and quality benchmarks are consistently met. The Production Operations Leader will be responsible for planning and establishing work schedules, staffing needs, and production sequences to optimize productivity. This individual will conduct production process evaluations and propose solutions for process enhancements. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on production experience and a profound understanding of identifying and anticipating potential challenges, refining processes, and transitioning designs to the manufacturing floor. This role demands a strong problem-solver capable of driving efficiency and quality improvements throughout the production workflow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily production operations, ensuring all processes operate smoothly and efficiently while meeting quality standards and production goals.
  • Manage and prioritize the equipment and personnel associated with the production line.
  • Set operational priorities and direct daily activities, including the timely issuance and completion of work orders on the production floor.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and design teams to ensure manufacturability of designs, facilitating smooth transitions from design to production while addressing potential production challenges early in the design phase.
  • Monitor production performance metrics and prepare comprehensive reports for senior management.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for ongoing improvement, with a focus on efficiency and quality.
  • Work alongside program managers to synchronize production schedules with project timelines, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery of all outputs.
  • Develop weekly and monthly production schedules and meet associated objectives.
  • Deliver high-level reports to Production Managers, Directors, and the Head of Manufacturing as required, ensuring transparency and accountability in production operations.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, maintain current safety training, and document any Environmental, Health, and Safety incidents.
  • Proactively address workplace hazards and empower teams to continuously enhance safety and operational processes.
  • Manage, mentor, and support production technicians, prioritizing work activities to achieve on-time delivery targets.
  • Guarantee that quality standards are consistently upheld throughout the production process, supporting zero-defect outcomes from all stations.
  • Review available data to allocate resources effectively, maximizing manufacturing efficiency.
  • Utilize operation rates and duration estimates to schedule start and completion dates, adjusting plans as necessary to maintain accurate and current production schedules.
  • Compile and maintain a regular production schedule to ensure job start dates are achieved.
  • Manage Six Sigma and other continuous improvement initiatives within the department, refining planned hours for future orders.
  • Assist in gathering information for monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years in manufacturing, with at least 3 years in an operations management role within the electronics sector.
  • Experience in transitioning designs to production and collaborating closely with design and engineering teams.
  • Experience in working with program managers to align schedules and meet project objectives.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Background in a DoD environment, including familiarity with MIL-STDs, FAR, DFAR, and government contracting.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effective collaboration across various organizational levels.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).

Education

  • BS or BA degree in manufacturing or engineering, or relevant experience in a manufacturing operations management role.
  • Training or certification in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
