Primary Objective of the Role: The Division of Cardiology within the Department of Internal Medicine is in search of a qualified individual to deliver clinical care for adults with congenital heart conditions, while also contributing to our academic initiatives in research and education. Our Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) program has successfully completed its accreditation review and is well-supported institutionally to maintain a robust program. The selected candidate will join a distinguished team of physicians and surgeons at one of the leading Heart Centers in the nation.

Key Responsibilities: The successful candidate will offer comprehensive care in both inpatient and outpatient environments for adults facing congenital heart challenges, irrespective of the severity of their conditions. Responsibilities include collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, which encompasses pediatric cardiologists, congenital and adult cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, advanced heart failure and transplant experts, hepatologists, social workers, nurses, and other professionals. The candidate will also engage in outreach clinics and partake in research and educational endeavors related to ACHD, including publishing scholarly articles, presenting at professional conferences, instructing fellows and residents, and mentoring students. Additionally, the candidate will play a role in the establishment of an ACHD fellowship program.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Board certification in cardiology and board certification or eligibility in Adult Congenital Heart Disease is required.
  • A strong clinical orientation along with adequate research and teaching experience to qualify for an academic position is necessary.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a large multidisciplinary program are essential.
  • Participation in teaching and fellowship initiatives is expected.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Virginia is required.
  • Proven experience in fostering a diverse environment among faculty, staff, and students, or a commitment to do so as a member of the VCU faculty.
