Primary Objective of this Role: The Commonwealth of Virginia is in search of a Board Certified/Board Eligible Internal Medicine physician to engage in a comprehensive clinical and academic program lasting one year. The Heart Failure Scholars initiative is designed to provide in-house coverage for Cardiology units during nighttime hours, operating 12 hours per day, 7 days a week. Traditionally, the Cardiology Hospitalist team consists of two internists who assist the Cardiology inpatient teams in managing patients with complex medical conditions and facilitate the growth of cardiovascular services. Heart Failure Scholars will participate in a rotational schedule, covering one week in a four-week cycle. During the remaining time, scholars will gain clinical exposure to cardiology, heart failure management, quality enhancement, and research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching | Engage in educational activities through direct interactions with residents and allied health professionals.

Research | Contribute to clinical research efforts by assisting in participant recruitment and providing supplementary clinical management while engaging in scholarly pursuits.

Learning | Involve in educational experiences on inpatient consult services and outpatient settings with a focus on clinical heart failure exposure.

Clinical | Expected clinical involvement is approximately 25%. Responsibilities and time commitments align with those of medical hospitalists - nocturnists; the duty hours will encompass 7 shifts within a 4-week timeframe. Responsibilities include direct patient management on inpatient and observational Cardiology services during overnight hours, collaborating closely with Cardiology faculty and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). Provide consultations for Cardiology admissions in the Emergency Department. Collaborate with Cardiology Attendings, Fellows, Residents, and APPs to ensure a cohesive Cardiology treatment plan for each patient.

Additional Duties | Complete billing and documentation as mandated by the organization. Adhere to all medical staff regulations. Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine Proven experience in promoting and supporting a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to fostering such an environment as a faculty member. Preferred Qualifications:
A clinical and academic interest in pursuing a career in heart failure.
