As a Library Security Officer, you will serve as the primary line of defense within our buildings. Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring library premises to enforce established conduct policies for visitors and patrons.
- Conducting regular inspections of the building and its surroundings to ensure security measures are upheld.
- Addressing unauthorized individuals and coordinating with security personnel or law enforcement when necessary.
- Assisting in the enforcement of safety protocols to protect library users, staff, and property from theft, fire hazards, and other risks.
- Providing security oversight during special events and gatherings.
- Documenting incidents and preparing detailed reports to support investigations.
- Reporting any maintenance issues or unusual occurrences to the appropriate services.
- Utilizing security technology effectively as part of the overall safety strategy.
- Being flexible to work at various locations as required.
Key Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with the public and colleagues.
- Willingness to work at any assigned location.
- Successful completion of a physical examination.
- Possession of a valid New York State Security Guard Registration.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years of relevant security experience.
- Preferred: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or Security Management.
- Experience in law enforcement or military service is advantageous.
Additional Information:
Newly hired employees must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination unless a qualifying medical or religious exemption is applicable. This policy ensures the safety and health of all library employees and patrons.
