Job Summary

The New York Public Library is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Library Maintainer to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing library building systems and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our patrons and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform minor repairs to lighting equipment, including relamping and ballast replacement
  • Perform elementary preventative maintenance work on mechanical equipment, air conditioning, plumbing, and painting
  • May be assigned to work in various trades as required
  • May be assigned to work in multiple locations, including Manhattan, Staten Island, Bronx, and Long Island City
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 0-2 years of work experience in maintenance and repairs of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge and experience in all phases of building maintenance, including painting, plumbing, and/or carpentry
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to set up work from scaffolds and ladders
  • Basic knowledge of computers
  • Valid driver's license and clear driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from a vocational or trade school, with a certificate in one of the building trades
Work Environment

NYC libraries, mechanical rooms, roofs, and office buildings

Physical Duties
  • Limited physical effort is required
  • Light lifting required
  • Lifting up to 40 lbs. Required
