Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional electrochemist and/or battery scientist to join our team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. As a key member of our Energy Processes and Materials Division, you will contribute to the development of innovative battery technologies, focusing on aqueous-Zinc, lithium-/sodium-ion battery electrodes/electrolytes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and synthesize high-performance electrode materials and electrolytes for aqueous-Zn, Li-/Na-ion batteries using earth-abundant elements.
  • Fabricate pouch/prismatic cells using PNNL's Advanced Battery Facilities.
  • Collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers to identify and understand the working mechanisms through advanced characterization and theoretical simulation.
  • Provide technical contribution and leadership through problem-solving, innovation, and creativity.
  • Conduct and monitor state-of-the-art experimentation, adhering to PNNL safety standards, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience, or MS/MA, or PhD in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related fields.
  • Experience in synthesis of high-performance aqueous-Zn, Li-/Na-ion battery electrode materials, electrolyte screening, and pouch cell fabrication.
  • Strong background in Li-/Na-ion battery and aqueous Zn batteries research.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, thorough understanding of engineering, material science, and electrochemistry principles.
