As a key member of the Regional Security Services team, the Protective Services Supervisor is a seasoned security professional responsible for overseeing a team of Healthcare Protection Officers (HPO) in Northern California for a prominent healthcare organization.

The Protective Services Supervisor will guide the HPO team in their essential mission of safeguarding patients, visitors, and staff from potential threats and criminal activities.

In addition to this primary focus, the Protective Services Supervisor will undertake professional and supervisory responsibilities associated with the Healthcare Protection Officer (HPO) and Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWV) initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:
Protective Services Operations


Oversees the daily operations of the HPO program within a designated market, service area, or medical facility, ensuring operational efficiency, problem-solving, staffing, scheduling, supervision, and training.

Accountable for delivering high-performance, professional, and technical security services to protect patients, staff, physicians, visitors, property, and facilities from crime, disruptive behavior, and workplace violence.

Provides leadership, guidance, and support to assigned HPO personnel and resources.

When necessary, the Protective Services Supervisor will assume the role of a Healthcare Protection Officer (HPO), responding to security incidents and workplace violence.

Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWV) and Threat Management (TM)

The Protective Services Supervisor plays a vital role in preventing, investigating, and effectively resolving security threats and incidents of workplace violence. Collaborating with site security management, the Supervisor ensures seamless coordination on all security-related matters.

Manages assigned Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWV) programs, providing Threat Assessment and Management (TAM) support to the service area or site Threat Management Team (TMT).


Compensation:
$114,406 annually

Responsibilities/Duties

Healthcare Protection Officer Program

Directs, leads, and manages HPOs to ensure effective performance and exceptional service delivery. Mentors and coaches staff to guarantee they fulfill their job responsibilities and collaborate effectively with others.


Reviews incident reports, investigations, and related documents for accuracy before submission; schedules and conducts regular HPO meetings; prepares rosters and schedules for operations, organizing shift changes, days off, sick leave, PTO, and training time; ensures adequate coverage for assigned shifts; and confirms completion of training requirements.

Collaborates with the HPO Program Senior Manager and Human Resources on officer conduct, performance, and attendance issues, onboarding, and training; adheres to policy, constructive coaching, and disciplinary processes when necessary.


Effectively communicates and supports local and system leadership decisions and initiatives, assisting staff in adapting to changes through communication, education, problem resolution, and by setting a positive example.

Develops and maintains strong working relationships with local law enforcement agencies and community partners.

Prevention of Workplace Violence Program

Manages the PWV program at assigned service areas or sites.

Ensures workplace violence incidents are thoroughly investigated and documented.


Works with HPOs to implement PWV mitigation strategies, communication tools, and workflow processes, including the development of safety and security plans for individuals identified as high risk for violent behavior.

Coordinates the delivery of PWV training to staff.

Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.

Threat Management

Oversees and/or supports investigations and classification of threats against staff, patients, or facilities.

As directed, leads the TMT at the site level.

Program Management

Develops, scopes, sequences, and tracks major programs, often with regulatory requirements.

Develops, scopes, sequences, and tracks incident reporting metrics that drive departmental goals and contribute to change management strategies.

Public Speaking/Training/Teaching

Ensures compliance with federal and state security and risk regulations, including Joint Commission, CMS, HIPAA, and other state laws related to healthcare security, as well as the organization's security services-related policies and procedures.

Fosters a culture of execution, accountability, and continuous improvement across the team.

Collaborates effectively and contributes to a climate of cooperation across the department.

Works efficiently in a consensus-driven, values-based organization.

Required Experience

5+ years of experience in security, military, or law enforcement.

3+ years of experience in healthcare security leadership.

Preferred Education

Degree in Security Management, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.

Preferred Experience

Bachelor's degree.

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED.

Required Qualifications


Ability to pass a physical aptitude test (PAT), which may include timed push-ups, sit-ups, physical agility assessment, and a life-sized dummy drag.

Valid Driver's License.

California Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS) Guard Card.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Protection Professional (CPP).

Professional Certified Investigator (PCI).
