Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  1. Participate in eight weeks of formalized pre-service security training at the Illinois Corrections Training Academy, including firearms training.
  2. Receive on-the-job training under the supervision of a qualified correctional employee, performing tasks such as running lines, yard, dining room, housing units, facility buildings, writs, observing individuals in custody, perimeter patrol, armory, counting, shakedowns, movement, etc.
  3. Travel to various facilities across the state using a state-issued vehicle to complete assignments.
  4. Participate in one week of orientation at a facility, receiving formal training in housing unit work, report writing, out-count work, yard work, running lines, individuals in custody, chain-of-command, security buildings, disciplinary procedures, and other necessary training.
Requirements
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Elementary knowledge of resident behavior problems required.
Working Conditions
  1. Must be able to pass a pre-service security training course during the trainee period.
  2. Must be able to pass a firearms training course and learn the proper use of firearms during the trainee period.
  3. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel statewide.
  4. Must be able to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  5. Must be able to pass a drug screen.
  6. Must be able to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
