Position Summary:

The Pharmacy Informatics Technician supports the pharmacist in the preparation and distribution of medications, management of drug inventory, and maintenance of patient records. This role operates under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, and does not engage in tasks reserved for registered pharmacists.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Strong computer proficiency.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certification as a pharmacy technician (CPhT) is mandatory.
  • Preferred: One year of relevant pharmacy experience or completion of a certified training program in healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Accurately fills medication orders, surgical kits, and stock requisitions.
  2. Replenishes eye medications in designated surgical areas.
  3. Safely prepares intravenous admixtures and sterile products using proper techniques.
  4. Delivers medications and supplies according to established schedules.
  5. Assists in the ordering, receiving, and storage of medications and supplies.
  6. Ensures stock rotation to prevent expiration.
  7. Identifies and discards outdated or unusable medications.
  8. Restocks medication areas promptly and accurately.
  9. Repackages bulk medications into unit-dose formats as per established protocols.
  10. Collects and processes medication returns from patient care areas.
  11. Inputs medication orders into the pharmacy information system accurately.
  12. Records charges and credits for patient medications correctly.
  13. Generates necessary reports and labels as required.
  14. Handles telephone inquiries, directing calls appropriately.
  15. Assists at the service window and provides urgent deliveries as needed.
  16. Organizes and prioritizes tasks effectively.
  17. Maintains accurate logs and documentation.
  18. Exhibits strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  19. Keeps pharmacy areas organized and clean.
  20. Conducts regular inspections of medication storage areas.
  21. Collects data and participates in quality monitoring activities.
  22. Strives to enhance patient satisfaction and safety.
  23. Demonstrates a commitment to addressing customer needs.
  24. Participates in team problem-solving discussions.
  25. Embodies the values and behaviors of the organization.
  26. Develops and manages medication management databases.
  27. Identifies and resolves system issues.
  28. Evaluates medication-use systems for error prevention.
  29. Trains staff on medication-related technologies.
  30. Assists with inventory management and reporting.
  31. Facilitates the onboarding of new technology.
  32. Provides support during equipment service visits.
  33. Performs additional duties as assigned.
