Role Summary:

The Medical Director is responsible for guiding and managing the clinical teams at Finger Lakes Community Health, ensuring that all clinical operations align with the organization's core values, mission, and strategic objectives. Reporting directly to the Chief Clinical Officer, the Medical Director oversees clinical support, compliance, and licensure for medical providers while collaborating with administrative staff to provide effective supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Chief Clinical Officer and leadership team to optimize provider productivity.
  • Offer clinical insights to the Quality Committee and Quality Planning Team, facilitating the development and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Identify regulatory requirements in partnership with the Chief Clinical Officer for the management of a licensed community health center.
  • Supervise clinical guidelines, peer review processes, and clinical audits to ensure provider competency.
  • Guide corrective action plans with support from the Chief Clinical Officer.
  • Mentor medical staff on evolving health regulations to uphold high standards of patient care.
  • Lead care team meetings and peer review sessions.
  • Make final medical decisions in cases of disputes or complex issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physician Duties:

Conduct Examinations

  • Gather and assess comprehensive health histories.
  • Perform thorough physical examinations to evaluate health status across all age groups.
  • Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic medical conditions, including stable behavioral health issues.
  • Execute basic in-office procedures as necessary.
  • Provide well-child care, including immunization screenings and orders.
  • Initiate referrals to specialists as required.

Diagnostic Responsibilities

  • Order relevant laboratory and diagnostic tests to evaluate medical conditions.
  • Interpret test results to inform treatment decisions.

Treatment of Medical and Behavioral Conditions

  • Develop management plans based on patient presentations and diagnostic findings.
  • Document patient interactions clearly and concisely in the electronic health record.
  • Prescribe appropriate therapies, including controlled substances, within the scope of practice.
  • Address common gynecological issues.

Provide Counseling and Education

  • Educate patients on community services and health maintenance.
  • Offer counseling on family planning, including contraception and pregnancy.
  • Advise on aging and health promotion for older adults.
  • Serve as a supervising physician and mentor for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in accordance with state laws and organizational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Unrestricted NYS Physician License required.
  • Minimum of 10 years in clinical practice.
  • National board certification in Family Medicine or Med-Peds required.
  • CPR certification (can be provided).
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in non-profit healthcare settings preferred.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff via various media.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • OSHA Category I compliance.
