Position Overview:

This role is pivotal within The Port Authority of NY & NJ, focusing on the management and execution of the agency's comprehensive insurance strategies.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the establishment and management of the Port Authority's diverse operational insurance programs, including complex Property and Public Liability coverage.
  • Act as a representative of the Port Authority in discussions with both domestic and international insurance providers, legal teams, and brokerage personnel.
  • Support the daily operations of the Risk Financing team, including coordinating board processes, preparing budgets, and managing insurance payments.
  • Assist in the strategic planning and execution of risk and insurance management initiatives, ensuring effective contractual risk transfer.
  • Facilitate the procurement and management of the Port Authority's insurance programs by gathering essential underwriting data and insights related to operational risks.
  • Engage in renewal negotiations with senior management, brokers, and current or potential insurance underwriters.
  • Prepare detailed memorandums and presentations for Executive Staff and the agency's Board regarding insurance renewals, including matters related to the agency's captive insurance entity.
  • Evaluate policy terms, monitor insurer financial stability, and prepare cost estimates for premiums and self-insurance allocations.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of Analysts, promoting their professional development and technical expertise.
  • Implement processes and technologies to enhance the efficiency of the Risk Financing team in contract reviews.
  • Review contracts to ensure appropriate insurance requirements are established.
  • Maintain the Risk Financing intranet resources.
  • Coordinate and manage projects within the Risk Financing team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager of Risk Financing.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Proven analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, MS Project, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Comprehensive understanding of insurance principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in brokerage, underwriting, or claims management.
  • 5-7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt.
