Position Summary
As a Loss Control Consultant, you will be integral in conducting thorough evaluations and inspections of various commercial properties and process industries. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Performing comprehensive account reviews for underwriters and facilitating meetings with accounts and brokers.
  • Conducting detailed property loss control inspections across diverse occupancies, including high-rise buildings, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, museums, and healthcare establishments.
  • Managing your own schedule and preparing detailed survey reports.
  • Providing expert guidance to underwriting teams regarding risk quality and insurability.
  • Assessing fire protection systems, building modifications, and fire alarm plans, while advising clients accordingly.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date database of inspection records.
  • Allocating your time approximately as follows: 40% desktop reviews and risk selection, 40% on-site surveys and evaluations, 10% client meetings, and 10% general consulting and presentations.
  • Travel requirements may reach up to 30% of your time.
  • A company vehicle will be provided for business use.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Familiarity with fire protection systems, process hazards, and property loss control challenges is preferred.
  • Technical understanding of loss prevention codes and industry standards (NFPA, FM, API, ASME, etc.) is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with underwriters and managing multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Strong communication, writing, organizational, customer relations, public speaking, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer operations, including knowledge of software applications such as Word and Excel.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a recognized engineering discipline is required, with a preference for candidates with a focus on fire protection.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in conducting property loss control inspections for an insurance, consulting, or brokerage firm is preferred.
Compensation Information
For individuals working in California, Starr Insurance Companies is obligated to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The anticipated salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $120,000, reflecting various factors including skills, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
