Position Overview

The Insurance Risk Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing and evaluating insurance risks at Argonaut Management Services, Inc. This position is designed for individuals who are proactive and eager to engage with various teams to enhance the insurance risk management framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, manage, and report on all insurance risks relevant to the organization, both gross and net of reinsurance.
  • Develop and maintain key risk indicators (KRIs) and RAG trigger limits to track risk exposure trends.
  • Contribute to the formulation of the insurance risk appetite and monitor the risk profile to preemptively address potential breaches.
  • Challenge and provide insights on the management of insurance risks, including participation in annual reviews and updates of risk watch lists.
  • Collaborate closely with the Economic Capital Modelling team, particularly regarding insurance risk calibration.
  • Assist in maintaining robust systems and controls related to insurance risk aggregation.
  • Engage with Actuarial teams to conduct regular assessments of pricing and reserving processes, identifying key risk drivers and trends.
  • Enhance the visibility of risk management practices and support the business in understanding these concepts.
  • Design and develop risk management information (MI) that offers oversight of current risk issues and anticipates future challenges.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Experience in managing cross-product line risk aggregation or conducting quantitative portfolio analysis.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of facilitating discussions at various organizational levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of the general insurance industry and a solid understanding of insurance risk.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to develop a roadmap and secure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Strong analytical skills, utilizing data to enhance risk management practices.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic background, including a university degree.
  • Desirable qualifications in insurance or risk management.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Experience in underwriting, pricing, or portfolio management.
  • Alternatively, experience in an assurance role with a comprehensive understanding of underwriting risk.
  • Extensive knowledge of risk management frameworks.
  • Strong numerical, report writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Experience in a multinational (re)insurance environment, fulfilling regulatory obligations.
  • Good understanding of underwriting, ceded reinsurance, actuarial, and risk management functions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders across various levels.
