We are looking for a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Scientist II in the field of BioSpecimen Management, focusing on supporting Culture Collection and Panel production initiatives. The BioSpecimen Acquisition and Management division within Diagnostic Solutions serves as a centralized service that facilitates the acquisition, characterization, and management of biological materials, alongside the development of select panels for clinical research and the cultivation and characterization of various microorganisms and mammalian cell lines.

The Scientist II will oversee daily operations related to fulfilling service requests for Culture Collection and panel activities, while delivering exceptional biological solutions to our clients to foster innovation.

Working Hours: Monday - Friday (Day Shift)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement assigned project tasks by utilizing established protocols and applying scientific expertise and accumulated experience to complete projects involving the manipulation of human cell lines, microorganisms, and other biological materials.
  • Conduct standard microbiological techniques to culture a variety of bacterial isolates under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions for storage and delivery to clients.
  • Maintain and enhance the growth of diverse microbes under varying conditions.
  • Provide recommendations to address challenges encountered during procedures.
  • Plan and execute personal work under general supervision, potentially acting as a project lead.
  • Maintain a comprehensive scientific knowledge base and effectively apply broad scientific concepts to resolve moderately complex problems.
  • Evaluate alternative strategies to address issues or develop new insights on existing solutions.
  • Ensure the accuracy, quality, and promptness of all assigned projects, tasks, and related activities.
  • Responsible for electronic records management and the use of validated systems.
  • Adhere to established internal safety guidelines and procedures, as well as those specified by relevant external regulatory agencies.
  • Engage in routine laboratory maintenance, lab safety, ISO, and QSR implementation.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in aseptic techniques and experience with bacterial or cell culture.
  • Experience culturing within an anaerobic chamber is preferred.
  • Familiarity with bacterial enumeration, MPN, and identification using MALDI-TOF, along with knowledge of microbial taxonomy and identification.
  • Ability to manually manipulate samples (plating, pipetting, labeling, and vialing) regularly.
  • Capable of working in a laboratory environment daily under BSL-2 laboratory conditions.
  • Able to thrive in a dynamic and collaborative team environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Understanding of good laboratory practices, data management, and documentation standards.
  • Competent in planning work and determining next steps within the context of an overall project.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Experience with LIMS software, eLN, and JMP is preferred.
  • Client-facing experience is an advantage.
