Department: Medical/Clinical Affairs
Role Summary: The Scientist II will play a crucial role in our BioSpecimen Management team, focusing on the support of Culture Collection and Panel production initiatives. This function is vital for the acquisition, characterization, and management of biological materials, as well as the development of select panels for clinical research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently execute project tasks utilizing established protocols and applying scientific expertise to manipulate human cell lines, microorganisms, and other biological entities.
- Employ standard microbiological methods to culture a variety of bacterial isolates under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, ensuring optimal growth and maintenance.
- Proactively identify and propose solutions to challenges encountered during experimental procedures.
- Plan and conduct personal work with minimal oversight, potentially leading project initiatives.
- Maintain a comprehensive scientific knowledge base, utilizing broad scientific principles to address moderately complex issues.
- Evaluate alternative methodologies to resolve challenges or to enhance existing solutions.
- Ensure the accuracy, quality, and punctuality of all assigned projects and tasks, summarizing experimental findings and discussing conclusions with supervisors.
- Oversee electronic records management, ensuring timely and precise documentation in validated systems.
- Adhere to established safety protocols and procedures in compliance with relevant regulatory standards.
- Contribute to routine laboratory upkeep, safety compliance, and implementation of ISO and QSR standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Microbiology, or a related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree in a related field with at least 2 years of pertinent experience.
- Proficient in aseptic techniques and bacterial or cell culture methodologies.
- Experience with anaerobic chamber culturing is preferred.
- Skilled in bacterial enumeration, MPN, and identification using MALDI-TOF, with a solid understanding of microbial taxonomy.
- Ability to perform manual sample manipulations, including plating, pipetting, labeling, and vialing.
- Capable of working in a laboratory setting under BSL-2 conditions, handling various infectious human materials.
- Adept at collaborating within a dynamic team environment, engaging with multiple stakeholders.
- Familiarity with good laboratory practices, data management, and documentation standards.
- Competent in planning work and determining subsequent steps within project frameworks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications; experience with LIMS software, eLN, and JMP is advantageous.
