Role Summary


The LPN/Triage Desk Nurse plays a crucial role in assisting the Pain Management Clinic by providing direct support for incoming patient inquiries related to orthopaedic care.

Working in conjunction with the RN and/or healthcare provider, this position requires the effective use of clinical judgment and exceptional customer service skills to address patient needs.

The nurse is responsible for ensuring that accurate information is communicated to patients, families, providers, and other relevant parties.

Key Responsibilities


Promptly answers incoming calls and redirects them for provider advice or appointment scheduling as necessary; collaborates with the RN and/or provider to assess the urgency of patient requests.


Under the guidance of the RN and/or provider, manages patient advice calls, discusses test results, addresses patient inquiries, and provides necessary instructions and education; offers patient education regarding the provider's care plan; exercises sound judgment when advising patients.

Processes E-scribe prescriptions for provider approval; communicates prescriptions and documents them in the patient chart as per physician directives; manages prescription prior authorizations.


Records detailed notes for each patient call and ensures documentation is shared with the provider; maintains accurate, clear, and concise records related to patient history and conversations.

Assists colleagues as required; demonstrates effective teamwork and leadership skills to ensure successful collaboration and task delegation.


Fosters open and honest relationships with management and departments served; remains adaptable to new ideas and improvements; seeks innovative ways to implement changes.

Provides backup support for staff and management; contributes to daily office operations as needed in other areas. Participates in training sessions and departmental meetings.

Qualifications

Education:
N/A

Experience:

A minimum of three (3) years as a Licensed Practical Nurse with proficiency in nursing care, independent decision-making, telephone triage, emergency medicine, orthopaedics (adult/pediatric), ambulatory care, home health care, or ICU preferred.


Technical Skills:

Required skills include current clinical proficiency, excellent clinical abilities, organizational and prioritization skills, effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and basic computer skills.


Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
Must possess a current and valid license to practice practical nursing in the state of Ohio. BLS certification is required within three (3) months of hire.

Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday; Variable Days


Employment Status:
Part-Time; 24 hours per week
