Position Overview

The Mental Health Support Specialist is responsible for providing coaching, mentoring, and consultation to individuals to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction. This role involves providing expertise and consultation to the healthcare team to promote a culture where each individual's perspective and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment and rehabilitation activities while serving as an advocate for clients.

This position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be able to provide guidance on coping skills, self-advocacy, and independent living skills, and assist clients with decision-making and crisis plan development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide services based on principles of wellness self-management, personal recovery, natural supports, coping skills, self-advocacy skills, and independent living skills.
  • Assist clients with self-determination and decision-making.
  • Teach functional skills, such as managing medications, finances, and daily living activities.
  • Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal actions to encourage wellness.
  • Support clients in developing and implementing a Mental Health Wellness Recovery Action Plan.
  • Provide linkage to community resources and support stable housing and independent living skills.
  • Document all billable encounters within 24 hours.
  • Participate in required training and education as mandated by clinical coverage policy.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • NC Certified Peer Support Specialist certification.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read medical records quickly and document direct service delivery according to Medicaid and agency standards.

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 per year, depending on experience. We offer a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Work Environment: This position requires frequent travel to clients' homes and community settings. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a variety of environments and be able to adapt to changing situations.
