Position Overview:

The Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR) is on the lookout for a dedicated full-time Cross-Cultural Programs Coordinator with a background in engaging with the Vietnamese American community in the South Bay Area. This role is essential for the development, execution, and oversight of programs and events that foster cultural exchange, education, and collaboration among the Vietnamese American community and other cultural groups.

The Cross-Cultural Programs Coordinator will collaborate closely with VAR's team, interns, and volunteers to strategize existing and new initiatives that emphasize cultural learning and social justice. Key programs include the Student Engagement and Education for Development and Success (SEEDS) Summer Youth Program, the Lunar New Year Festival, the Cơm Gia Đình Anthology Project, and educational workshops aimed at social justice and anti-AAPI hate outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Management:
  • Design and oversee cross-cultural initiatives and events that enhance cultural understanding.
  • Coordinate cultural celebrations, art displays, performances, and programs that honor Vietnamese heritage and encourage intercultural dialogue.
  • Support the planning and execution of public cultural events and civic engagement activities in partnership with community stakeholders.
  • Community Outreach and Engagement:
  • Facilitate collaboration between the Vietnamese American community and other cultural groups.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders and partner organizations.
  • Conduct outreach to diverse communities to promote participation in cross-cultural initiatives.
  • Volunteer Coordination:
  • Recruit and engage volunteers from local and national Vietnamese Student Associations.
  • Develop a volunteer database and training program.
  • Organize annual volunteer recognition events.
  • Evaluation and Reporting:
  • Assess the effectiveness of VAR's cross-cultural programs and initiatives.
  • Gather and analyze data to evaluate program impact.
  • Prepare regular reports on program activities for leadership.
  • Administrative Duties:
  • Manage program budgets and ensure resource efficiency.
  • Assist in grant writing and fundraising efforts to support VAR's initiatives.
  • Participate in events and activities organized by VAR and its partners.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and program planning sessions.
  • Maintain proficiency in necessary technology tools for the role.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cultural/Ethnic Studies, Social Work, Education, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; or a minimum of 3 years of experience in program coordination or community outreach.
  • Commitment to VAR's mission and values.
  • Experience in community organizing and event planning, particularly with bilingual communities.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and youth-centered programs.
  • Knowledge of Asian American community issues, including immigration and access.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Passion for addressing social challenges through innovative events and initiatives.
  • Attention to detail and ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
  • Proficiency in technology tools such as Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and digital communication platforms.
  • Vietnamese language skills are highly preferred.
