Organization Overview
Reach for Resources is a nonprofit organization located in Minnetonka, Minnesota, dedicated to providing a variety of services including recreation, education, advocacy, and health programs for individuals with disabilities in the Minneapolis western metro area. Our recreation department collaborates with local county and city park and recreation departments to deliver adaptive recreation, inclusion, and training services to enhance community engagement.
Position Summary
The role involves attending designated ice skating sessions in various locations to support children with intellectual disabilities or behavioral challenges in acquiring ice skating skills. The specialist will facilitate access to local programs, helping individuals achieve their fullest potential for meaningful community inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with city parks and recreation personnel by serving as an assistant coach, program leader, or instructor.
- Engage with participants in the program, providing tailored support to children requiring 1:1 assistance.
- Offer additional support for children with disabilities, share effective teaching strategies with coaching staff, maintain communication with parents and peers, and gather insights from parks and recreation staff to promote maximum participation.
- Complete necessary inclusion documentation.

Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in maneuvering on ice skates (equipment can be provided).

- Valid driver's license in good standing and reliable transportation.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Availability during evenings and weekends.
- Capability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Understanding of community inclusion principles.
- Experience in group leadership.
- Minimum of 1 year working with individuals with disabilities.
