Healthcare Support Specialist, Inpatient Hospital Every Other Weekend

PrairieCare is a psychiatric healthcare system dedicated to providing mental healthcare for all. We are seeking a skilled Healthcare Support Specialist to join our team in an inpatient hospital setting, working every other weekend.

The Healthcare Support Specialist serves as a resource for unit nursing staff, patients, and visitors by assisting with care coordination, providing information, and securing assistance. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation of our units and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform coordinating functions accurately and efficiently
  • Greet patients and visitors, providing direction and information
  • Maintain unit information sources, such as care assignments
  • Prioritize and implement unit and patient needs according to hospital policies, procedures, and standards
  • Process physician orders accurately and timely
  • Efficiently process patient admission, transfer, and discharge in EHR
  • Provide clerical support to the unit and hospital
  • Demonstrate a customer service approach in care and interactions with others
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve systems and processes

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required
  • Health Unit Coordinator/Medical Secretary Certificate or two-year degree preferred
  • At least 1 year of work experience in a Health Unit Coordinator or Medical Secretary position preferred
  • Strong communication and telephone skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer and clerical skills
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with healthcare team members
