Job Overview

Position Summary: The role of a Fire Protection System Installer involves the installation of sprinkler heads, valves, and both steel and CPVC piping in newly built facilities as well as renovations of existing structures, requiring minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cut, shape, and install steel and CPVC piping as specified for fire protection systems.
  • Install and secure various piping, sprinkler heads, fittings, valves, hangers, and other components in compliance with blueprints and construction plans.
  • Install and adjust a range of valves for wet, dry, and pre-action fire protection systems.
  • Interpret blueprints and construction documents to ensure accurate assembly of the sprinkler system.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization in work areas during and after work hours.
  • Inspect and service tools according to company protocols.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and materials are secured and accounted for at the job site before leaving.
  • Report daily to the field foreman regarding progress and any job-related issues.
  • Assist in training apprentice fitters.
  • Adhere to safety programs, hazardous communication protocols, and participate in regular safety discussions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience and Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience in installing piping systems and valves is required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience in construction is preferred.
  • Essential skills include basic mathematics, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, customer service, decision-making, multitasking, project scheduling, planning, organization, troubleshooting, and the ability to train others.

Communication Skills:

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English with colleagues and clients.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to read electronic blueprints is strongly preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Compliance with drug and alcohol policies and background screening requirements is mandatory.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently bends, climbs ladders, kneels, lifts over 50 lbs, reaches above and below shoulder height, and stands or walks for extended periods. Vision requirements include the ability to see in color, at varying distances, and adjust focus. Occasional balancing, crouching, driving, and working at heights may be required.

Work Environment:

This position requires frequent local travel and occasional regional travel. Employees may work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and may be exposed to loud noises, confined spaces, dust, fumes, and electrical hazards. Personal protective equipment must be worn as mandated by company safety policies.
