This role represents a pivotal function within the Internal Audit team, contributing significantly to the provision of independent and objective evaluations of TriMet's IT landscape. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this position offers the ideal candidate substantial exposure to senior leadership across various organizational sectors. The incumbent will be instrumental in developing and executing audits to ensure that IT and system controls safeguard TriMet's resources while aligning with the overarching goals of Vision 2030 and the objectives outlined in TriMet's Business Plan.

The Senior IT Auditor will engage in intricate audits related to IT systems. This role is essential to ensure that TriMet's IT frameworks are adequately secured, deliver dependable information to decision-makers, and are effectively managed for their designated purposes. The Senior IT Auditor will assist in identifying and mitigating risks associated with cyber threats, data breaches, and system disruptions. Additionally, this position will evaluate the sufficiency of business continuity strategies concerning IT systems and assess risks and controls related to PCI compliance, third-party IT vendors, and change management for system enhancements.

Collaboration is key; the Senior IT Auditor will work closely with IT and business stakeholders, including managers, directors, and subject matter experts, as well as enterprise architects, developers, engineers, cybersecurity professionals, and contracted IT service providers, to analyze and evaluate the attainment of long-term technological objectives. Recommendations for risk mitigation through security controls will be a crucial aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assess the effectiveness of IT/system/software controls within TriMet. Design and execute tests to evaluate the controls' efficacy in mitigating risks and achieving management's technological objectives.
  2. Examine the efficiency and effectiveness of IT system processes, assess the reliability and integrity of financial and operational information systems, and evaluate the optimal use of technological resources. Confirm any identified exceptions with stakeholders to ensure agreement and identify potential mitigating controls.
  3. Document processes, controls, and risks meticulously. Maintain clear and methodical audit work-papers to support conclusions and recommendations. Identify root causes for process improvements and develop sustainable solutions to prevent recurrence.
  4. Plan IT audits and technology project reviews comprehensively. Engage with relevant staff and management, review policies and procedures, and identify applicable risks, regulations, and industry best practices.
  5. Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to analyze and assess the progress towards long-range technology goals.
  6. Gather and analyze information to assist users in enhancing systems. Provide recommendations to ensure ongoing operational integrity and efficiency.
  7. Conduct timely follow-up reviews and document outstanding findings, retesting controls and processes to ensure management action plans are completed and sustainable.
  8. Support the Internal Audit Manager in the risk assessment process to mitigate exposure, including periodic updates as necessary.

Position Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems Management, or a related technical field.

Four (4) years of total credited experience is necessary, including four (4) years in IT auditing, consulting, system auditing, or a similar role.

Certifications such as Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are required, along with Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
