Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associate's Degree in Radiology or a related field, or alternatively a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline. CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Nuclear Medicine Tech Certification (NMTCB) within 1 year of employment OR (N)(ARRT) within 1 year of employment, OR Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist upon hire.

IEMA Nuclear Medicine License and IL State License in Nuclear Medicine or Temporary license required upon hire.

BLS certification within 30 days of employment ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Familiarity with standard equipment used to perform essential job functions.

Occasional travel to other facilities may be required.

Core Responsibilities:

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
  • Executes diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures ensuring a comprehensive examination within the guidelines, policies, and standards of Medical Imaging for assigned patients of all ages.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy
  • Completes scheduling, ordering radiopharmaceuticals, and patient preparation protocols
  • Performs and documents all Radiopharmaceutical administrations
  • Maintains quality care throughout procedures while practicing radiation protection and minimizing personal exposure
  • Conducts necessary equipment quality control
  • Documents quality control records and camera flood images
  • Adheres to all conditions of radioactive material licenses and regulations
  • Completes all required radiation safety documentation
  • Possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.
  • Conducts patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control in compliance with medical orders and hospital procedures.

Clinical Proficiency
  • Maintains an up-to-date understanding of equipment and procedures to function across multiple areas of the department.
  • Technically knowledgeable about equipment operation and performs troubleshooting as needed
  • Inspects and monitors equipment for safety and proper operation
  • Keeps work areas clean, checks and stocks supplies, and verifies pertinent accessories assigned to each room
  • Knowledgeable of Hot Lab operations and procedures
  • Receives radioactive packages; prepares doses for distribution; manages radioactive waste storage
  • Knowledgeable of thyroid ablation therapies
  • Completes all documentation for regulatory requirements
  • Performs specialized procedures as required
  • Demonstrates practical problem-solving skills for patient handling and movement.
  • Promotes patient and staff safety through appropriate use of lifting equipment.

Relationship Building
  • Supports the Nuclear Medicine/PET Department to meet patient expectations and needs. Takes personal responsibility for training fellow technologists/students and utilizes time, supplies, and resources efficiently to promote responsive and cost-effective patient care.
  • Processes films and paperwork promptly to ensure timely reporting
  • Coordinates patient flow to ensure efficient care by transporting patients as needed and managing multiple patients simultaneously while ensuring safety
  • Accurately enters patient information into the medical records system to facilitate efficient patient throughput
  • Maintains quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement programs
  • Shares knowledge and guides fellow technologists/students on departmental protocols and procedures
  • Exhibits a professional demeanor towards colleagues, fostering mutual respect and creating a productive learning environment.
