The Summer Program Coordinator plays a vital role in the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of district-sponsored summer initiatives. This position is essential in providing support and direct assistance to all educational institutions conducting district-funded summer activities across various school levels. The coordinator ensures that all district-funded programs comply with state and district regulations, collaborating with schools to effectively manage their unique summer program strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

During the Academic Year:

  • Facilitates the assessment of the previous summer's programming.
  • Develops comprehensive operational plans for upcoming summer initiatives.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of district-run programs, including High School Credit Recovery and Middle School Academic Recovery.
  • Contributes to the creation and enhancement of family-facing materials such as flyers and applications.
  • Generates recruitment materials for summer employment opportunities.
  • Supports the hiring process for all summer program personnel.
  • Provides professional development for staff involved in summer programming.

During the Summer:

  • Oversees the daily management and supervision of all district-operated summer programs and partnerships.
  • Ensures effective implementation and management of school-based summer offerings.
  • Conducts summer program evaluations, gathers feedback, and addresses immediate needs.
  • Responds to inquiries from parents, schools, and students via designated communication channels.
  • Manages summer payroll and oversees the collection of mandatory staff work logs.
  • Adheres to all equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) with the appropriate endorsement.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience, including roles in managing and supporting summer programming.
  • Proven ability to deliver professional development effectively.
  • Familiarity with current curriculum frameworks and best practices in education.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver persuasive presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration.
  • Ability to analyze and apply data effectively.
  • Competence in providing training and instruction to educators and staff.
  • Proficiency in technical computer applications.
