Key Responsibilities
- Patient Registration and Financial Management: Ensure thorough and precise patient registration, pre-authorization, and billing processes. Handle payment postings and reconcile financial reports at the end of each day. This role demands exceptional interpersonal skills and frequent public interaction. Manage patient pre-payments and uphold financial agreements before services are rendered. Gather charge details, accurately code diagnoses, and oversee the billing cycle, including filing insurance claims and assisting patients with their insurance inquiries. - 20%
- Patient Liaison and Appointment Coordination: Act as a bridge between patients and medical personnel. Welcome patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy. Confirm patient check-ins, update insurance details, and secure necessary signatures. Assist patients with mobility challenges and maintain the appointment schedule. Provide phone support and manage visitor inquiries. Ensure accurate charge posting for outpatient services and manage payment processing. - 20%
- Insurance and Claims Assistance: Support patients with inquiries related to insurance claims, disability benefits, and medical services. Facilitate the completion of necessary forms for hospitalization or surgical pre-authorization. Follow up with insurance providers to confirm coverage and maintain detailed records of patient accounts. Address patient questions regarding their financial responsibilities and manage workers' compensation claims. - 20%
- Billing Process Management: Conduct thorough research to finalize outpatient billing, including obtaining charge information from healthcare providers. Accurately code procedures and diagnoses, and enter this information into the billing system. Assist with coding and resolving billing discrepancies. Organize and manage patient charts and medical records, ensuring compliance with established protocols. - 20%
- Payment Collection and Account Management: Collect payments during patient visits and review accounts to ensure timely payments. Engage in collection efforts, including contacting patients and resubmitting claims to insurance companies. Evaluate patient financial situations and propose payment plans. Collaborate with team members to resolve billing issues and maintain confidentiality at all times. - 20%
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not include management duties and reports to a designated supervisor or manager.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree in a relevant technical field is preferred. No prior experience is necessary, although experience in a multi-specialty practice is advantageous.
Skills and Knowledge
- Basic knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding is preferred.
