Mechanical Engineer for High Volume Manufacturing

About the Job:We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Portland, Oregon. As a Manufacturing Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in transitioning our node designs into high-volume manufacturing.
Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with our local fabrication partners and the node mechanical design team to develop and implement efficient manufacturing processes. You will immerse yourself in the details of node production, from design to manufacturing, and become an expert in our manufacturing systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Embedded in the day-to-day at our local manufacturing space to understand existing processes and equipment
- Fully understanding the processes and requirements for building core node shapes and structures
- Characterizing processes to inform specification development, design best practices, cost structures, and future manufacturing site requirements
- Supporting the development of bespoke manufacturing processes and equipment as needed
- Contributing to the design and development of the node pilot line
- Providing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback to the node design team
Requirements include:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, solid mechanics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, and fabrication processes
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling, drafting, and PLM
- Self-starter with excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Desired qualifications include experience developing high-volume equipment and knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, fluid systems, heavy steel manufacturing, welding, or metal forming.
Compensation and Benefits:We offer a competitive compensation package, including a cash compensation of $85,000 - $150,000, equity in the company, and a comprehensive benefits package, including flexible paid time off, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, disability insurance, and tax-advantaged accounts.
