Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Telecommunicator to join our team at MSCCN in Norfolk, Virginia. As a Public Safety Telecommunicator, you will play a critical role in responding to emergency calls and dispatching police, fire, and EMS services. Your duties will include:

  • Answering 911 emergency and non-emergency calls from the community
  • Making lifesaving decisions and providing clear direction and advice to callers
  • Entering information into the computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) for Police/Fire/EMS dispatch
  • Maintaining communication with other departments and making decisions for public safety purposes
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Type at a minimum speed of 30 words per minute
  • Keyboard proficiency to effectively train and certify in this position
  • Ability to speak English clearly and effectively control a conversation with distressed callers
  • Ability to read maps, reference books, technical manuals, medical cards, and related correspondence
