Job Summary

The Alief Independent School District is seeking a skilled School Nurse to provide healthcare services to students at Liestman Elementary. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized healthcare plans, administering medication, and identifying and assessing student health concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with disabilities and health conditions that impact learning.
  • Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.
  • Identify, assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate student health concerns, including physical and mental health needs and injuries.
  • Conduct health assessments, including screenings for health factors impacting student education.
  • Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.
  • Coordinate and submit documentation required for local, state, and federal compliance reporting.
  • Utilize equipment and technology for the delivery of healthcare services.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and stay current with laws, trends, and best practices related to school health services.
  • Provide First Aid/CPR/AED as needed.
  • Assist in the formation of health policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for the school district.
  • Provide chronic disease management and education, including ventilator care, gastrostomy feedings, tracheostomy care, catheterizations, etc.
  • Assist special education teachers with IEP implementation of special education students as needed.
  • Attend ARD/IEP meetings as needed.
  • Maintain current clinical skills and competence.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree from an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Bachelor's degree of Science in Nursing from an accredited professional nursing education program, preferred.
  • Valid registered nurse license from the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience in community health, ambulatory care, school health, or other related fields.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse, preferred.
Working Conditions

The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced school environment, interacting with students, teachers, and parents. The position requires frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. The School Nurse may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $62,995/BA, $63,495/MA, $63,995/PHD (based on previous experience). The Alief Independent School District offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
