Safety and Security Advocate for Homeless Support

PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) is a pioneering organization that has been at the forefront of addressing homelessness in California since 1984. Our comprehensive continuum of services aims to holistically address barriers to long-term housing stability, implementing evidenced-based practices to promote improved wellbeing beyond housing alone.
Job OverviewThe Safety Support Associate role is part of our Interim Housing team, ensuring the site is a safe environment for all staff, program participants, and visitors. This involves monitoring facilities and grounds, building rapport with participants, and providing assistance and support during crisis situations. Additionally, this position assists in implementing security and support systems, protocols, and policies.
Responsibilities- Ensure overall safety of the interim housing site through observation, de-escalation strategies, and ongoing participant engagement.
- Coordinate with onsite case management teams to provide support to the interim housing site.
- Work with contracted security agencies to ensure site safety, if applicable.
- Conduct regular rounds of the site and facility grounds, reporting any discrepancies or concerns.
- Assist the Associate Director in drafting documentation regarding site safety and security.
- Respond to security and/or crisis situations using non-violent crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation strategies.
- Analytical skills and attention to detail are essential for identifying trends, patterns, and insights to inform decision-making.
- Collaboration and teamwork skills are necessary for working effectively with others, seeking out and building positive relationships.
- Effective communication is crucial for conveying information clearly and concisely to individuals and groups.
- Creativity and initiative are required for taking action without being prompted and making decisions based on sound reasoning.
