Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Extra Utility Worker to join our facilities team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of our state-of-the-art facility.
Key Responsibilities- Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to visitors, staff, and artists, aligning with The Shed's mission to create a best-in-class experience.
- General Cleaning and Upkeep: Perform daily cleaning and maintenance duties, including cleaning offices, public lobbies, galleries, restrooms, event spaces, dressing rooms, and other public and service areas.
- Maintenance and Repair: Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, including buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers, vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees.
- Floor Care: Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
- Maintenance Calls: Respond to maintenance and emergency calls in a timely and efficient manner.
- Chemical and Supply Management: Utilize and maintain chemicals and supplies in a safe and effective manner.
- Trash and Recycling: Handle trash removal and recycling duties.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: Prior experience working as a Custodian or similar role.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a museum or cultural institution.
- Teamwork and Communication: Ability to work as part of a team or independently, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Time Management: Can handle multiple tasks at once and prioritize importance to meet deadlines.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for the duration of the shift and lift 75 lbs.
- Adaptability: Resilient and able to handle high-pressure situations without burning out.
- Uniform and Appearance: Comply with The Shed's Uniform Dress Code and maintain a neat and clean appearance.
This job operates in a public assembly facility and professional office environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
CompensationThis position is covered under the Shed/32BJ collective bargaining agreement with wages and benefits as outlined by the agreement. The hourly rate for this position is $20.25.
