Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing eligibility for various state and federal entitlement programs, as well as community-based initiatives.
- Reviewing self-pay patient lists to pinpoint those in need of assistance.
- Receiving and managing referrals from community organizations and internal healthcare teams.
- Initiating contact with patients and their families to evaluate their needs and prioritize assistance.
- Maintaining accurate reports and submitting necessary documentation by established deadlines.
- Documenting all interactions in accordance with policies and procedures within the patient medical record.
- Understanding the verification process through insurance platforms and having a foundational knowledge of patient financial services billing.
- Facilitating the completion of Medicaid applications and other required forms, while explaining the Medicaid and FINA processes.
- Accompanying patients to appointments at social services and other agencies as needed.
- Assisting in obtaining necessary documentation for Medicaid or health program eligibility.
- Ensuring compliance with HIPAA and client confidentiality policies throughout the process.
- Creating clear action plans and effectively managing a caseload to ensure timely resolution.
- Strong phone support and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management.
- Experience in healthcare management and patient financial services.
- Knowledge of Medicaid and HIPAA regulations.
- Associate's degree in a related field with two years of relevant experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience in financial counseling, billing, or customer service.
- Familiarity with various health programs, including Medicaid and local initiatives, along with their eligibility criteria.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in relevant software.
- Ability to navigate health coverage enrollment processes and adhere to privacy and security regulations.
