This role is essential for managing the scheduling requirements of patients at the Cancer Center, which includes processing observation orders, coordinating patient arrivals, and ensuring clinical staff are prepared for triage.

The Patient Services Coordinator plays a vital role in the department's success by meeting established performance goals in a high-demand clinic environment while addressing the needs of patients and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities:

Under limited supervision, the coordinator will perform a variety of administrative support tasks at the assigned clinic, including:

  • Patient Interaction: Provide direct service to patients via phone or in-person, including scheduling appointments and handling reception duties.
  • Data Verification: Confirm demographic and insurance information, and assist with referrals and prior authorizations.
  • Issue Resolution: Address patient concerns and complaints, acting as a liaison with physicians and insurance companies as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED is required. Additional degrees from accredited institutions may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required upon hire.

This position will encompass various functional areas, including New Patient Referral Processing, Insurance Verification, Patient Check-In and Registration, Scheduling, Medical Records, and PBX Operations.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Reception Duties: Manage incoming calls, facilitate patient check-in/out, and ensure accurate appointment scheduling.
  2. Registration Tasks: Collect insurance information and verify patient demographics.
  3. Financial Management: Handle co-pays and upfront payments, ensuring compliance with cash management policies.
  4. Billing Coordination: Generate necessary billing documents during patient visits.
  5. Prior Authorization Management: Coordinate referrals and verify insurance coverage.
  6. Communication: Maintain ongoing dialogue with the centralized Practice Coordinator regarding staffing and operational issues.
  7. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate filing systems and update data as required.
  8. Cross-Training: Provide backup support for other administrative roles as needed.
