Job Overview

The UNM Medical Group, Inc. is in search of a dedicated Full-time Patient Services Coordinator to be part of our Truman Health Services Team. This role requires exceptional communication skills and a commitment to teamwork.

Salary Range: Minimum $34,299 - Midpoint $42,203*

*Compensation is based on total relevant experience.

*Salary is calculated based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) of 40 hours per week. Hours worked below this threshold will be prorated accordingly. Standard work hours are Monday - Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in a fast-paced Primary Care Clinic environment and be knowledgeable about processes such as insurance verification, patient eligibility checks, appointment scheduling, and managing multiline phone systems. Experience in collecting patient co-pays, maintaining daily cash collections, and preparing deposits is also essential.

This position demands a reliable, enthusiastic individual with a strong work ethic who can efficiently coordinate calls and registrations while delivering outstanding customer service.

Position Summary

Under limited supervision, this role encompasses a variety of administrative support tasks at the assigned UNMMG Ambulatory Clinic. Responsibilities include direct patient service via phone or in-person, scheduling appointments, performing receptionist duties, verifying demographic and insurance details, and obtaining necessary referrals and prior authorizations from insurance providers. The coordinator will also assist with patient concerns and act as a liaison with physicians, other healthcare providers, and insurance companies as needed.

Essential Qualifications for a Patient Services Coordinator:

A high school diploma or GED is required. Higher education credentials from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required upon selection for hire.

Key Responsibilities of a Patient Services Coordinator:

  1. Reception Duties: Responsible for clinic reception tasks including answering incoming calls, patient check-in/out, and coordinating accurate patient appointment scheduling through electronic and manual systems.
  2. Registration Duties: Responsible for registration tasks including obtaining insurance card copies, verifying patient demographics and insurance information, and ensuring accurate data entry into UNMMG systems.
  3. Financial Management: Responsible for collecting co-pays and upfront payments, generating patient receipts, and reconciling daily cash collections according to UNMMG policies.
  4. Billing Responsibilities: Responsible for generating charge documents and other billing paperwork during patient visits to ensure proper billing information is documented.
  5. Prior Authorization Coordination: Responsible for processing referrals and prior authorizations, interfacing with insurance companies to verify coverage and obtain necessary approvals.
  6. Maintain communication with the centralized UNMMG Practice Coordinator regarding staffing, training, and operational issues.
  7. Maintain record-keeping and filing systems; gather, enter, and update data as required.
  8. Provide backup support for other administrative personnel as needed; cross-train for various administrative and customer service functions.
  9. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
